Autumn 1

October

Some great examples of teamwork in Einsteins this afternoon as we tried to lift the cargo from the ship to the dock.

Newtons have been working together to create a pulley system to lift some precious cargo. We thought about the materials we wanted to use and how we could keep our structure strong. But could we lift the cargo?

Can we design a mechanism to lift a ship’s cargo? We are in the initial design stages & are sharing ideas in Kagan teams, jotting ideas & sketches.

An arty morning in Da Vincis, finalising our designs ready for Batik later in the week, whilst enjoying some African rhythm music.

Da Vincis are working in Kagan teams to create our class “welcome booklet” with all the essential information inside, including who to ask for help, our behaviour policy & uniform.

Such enthusiastic and fun scientists this week in Da Vincis.

I am so incredibly proud of the writing produced in Newtons this week. We have created information texts all about Liverpool and presented them beautifully!

Testing the pull of gravity! Einsteins used their maths skills too to interpret scales.

We investigated friction by trying to move jelly cubes from one plate to another. It got VERY tricky when we reduced the friction and added soap! Superb scientific discussions going on.

We are investigating forces using force meters this afternoon. We love that it is measured in NEWTONS!

Da Vincis have loved science this afternoon, exploring a life without gravity and using appropriate forcemeters to test the gravity acting upon objects in our classroom.

Miss Bradley is so impressed at this group’s ability to track a character’s feelings through their guided reading story! They used brilliant vocabulary to describe Phan’s emotions.

We’ve been zooming around Liverpool on a virtual tour from Newtons classroom and we even used our Computing skills to airdrop links to each other for other videos!

Year 5 are taking virtual tours around Liverpool’s Albert Dock ahead of their new non-fiction writing topic. The children effectively opened an airdropped document to access the video & content. Very impressed with our tech-savvy class!

September 2021

We have been working hard to build up our writing in Newtons this week. The children have been sharing amazing ideas as we prepare to start writing our own Legend story today. I’m so excited to see the end products.

We have been researching key figures in Black History and figuring out where they fit in the long timeline of world history. We loved finding out about Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, Harriet Tubman and many more!

Celebrating European language day in Einstein’s with a fun Kahoot quiz! Very competitive!

We have been writing letters to Mr. Snake to express our emotions after tricking him as part of our VIPERS topic ‘Anansi Stories’. Sophie’s really captured Anansi’s feelings and gave a brilliant explanation!

We have been working together to build ideas for our Legend story, which we are going to begin writing next week! Some wonderful ideas today Newtons.

We investigated Liverpool’s street names and their link to the Slave Trade this afternoon, then we created our very own walking tour route for visitors to our city ๐Ÿ˜€ We were amazed at the historical importance of some things we walk past every day!

Finishing off a busy day with some meditation and mindfulness in Newtons this afternoon ๐Ÿง˜‍โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง˜‍โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Year 5 are busy exploring some of the goods that were imported into Liverpool and stored in the famous warehouses.

We created some beautiful African drums as part of our new topic provocation this afternoon. It’s been a wonderful first couple of days in Newtons classroom ๐Ÿ™Œโญ๏ธ

Started life in Newtons as we mean to go on… dancing and singing ๐Ÿ™Œ  What a first day back! ๐Ÿ’™

What a great first day, Einsteins! Lots of fun activities today for our provocation day.
