Music at Anfield Road

Music is a huge part of everyday life at Anfield Road and we aim to provide experiences that ignite a passion in our children and help them to thrive. We are proud to announce that we have recently been awarded the ‘Music Mark’ accreditation in recognition of our commitment to providing a high quality music education.

Liverpool is a ‘UNESCO City of Music’ and the city has a lengthy record of musical success. With musical wealth like this, it is important that we teach our children about our musical heritage from a young age. For example, as part of our year one learning challenge the children are taught all about The Beatles. This includes a Beatles tribute band who perform a concert at our school for their provocation, before experiencing the Magical Mystery tour and a visit to the world famous Cavern Club.

You never know if you have the next John Lennon or Paul McCartney in your class and so it is our role to encourage and nurture children’s musical skills and talents and we are proud of the fantastic opportunities we offer. Our ‘Anfield Values’ state that every child has the right to learn an instrument regardless of their background and so children in year 1 to year 4 do so as part of their music lessons. Our year 5 children also have the opportunity to experience musical theatre live on the West End on their annual residential to London.

Children learn many transferable skills through music and this is something that we positively promote. We hold two ‘Music Extravaganza’ events each year to showcase our school’s talent and provide the children with the opportunity to perform to a wider audience, as well as the buzz of the audience, the children also develop their confidence, determination and resilience.

With such fantastic musical opportunities available throughout our curriculum, it is no surprise that our extra- curricular music club is such a success. Currently we have 26 children in our school band playing instruments including the guitar, violin, piano and drums. We also have two very successful choirs who perform regularly at our many events.
