Intent
Why do we teach what we teach at Anfield Road Primary School?
The Arts is a driver of our curriculum and we want our learners to develop a passion for all types of music, to appreciate music and to develop a life-long love of music
We want our learners to develop skills, passion and confidence to be able to perform, compose and listen.
We want our learners to celebrate the multicultural nature of our school and with that celebrate variety of genres from around the world.
We want our learners to know that Liverpool is a city of music, famous for its contribution to music and that it was designated as a UNESCO city of music in 2015.
We want our learners to develop skills in, singing, composing, and playing tuned and untuned instruments and have the opportunity to regularly perform for others.
We place the Arts in high regard and nurture our children who have a flair for music.
Implementation
How do we teach Music at Anfield Road Primary School?
Our learners are introduced to music in the EYFS. Through our Expressive Arts and Design Curriculum, learners are immersed in music, songs, and encouraged to develop their imagination and creativity.
Our learners are taught music by both class teachers and our specialist music teacher. Children in KS1 are taught @@@@ and then children from year 3- 6 are taught Ukulele so they have a definite progression of skills throughout school.???
Music is taught progressively throughout school and skills are built upon. Music knowledge organisers explicitly state the knowledge, skills and vocabulary to be taught each half term in each year group.
Music is enhanced throughout the curriculum by opportunities to perform regularly and for all children KS1 & KS2 to perform at our local theatre once a year.
Live experiences of music are highly regarded as part of our Music Curriculum and visits the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic orchestra, Cavern Club Liverpool, Empire theatre and West End Musicals show our passion for children experiencing high quality performances.
Children who have a passion or flair for music are invited to join our school band who perform regularly throughout the year.
